Welcome to the City of Austin Utility Bill Relief application process!
As our community comes together to respond to the concerns of COVID-19, the City has taken steps to ensure residential customers have uninterrupted access to utility services and that residential customers experiencing hardships due to COVID-19 can get immediate utility bill relief. The Emergency Financial Support Plus 1 Program helps residential customers who are having financial difficulties and are unable to pay their utility bills due to unexpected emergencies.
With more Austinites facing financial emergencies due to COVID-19, the City of Austin is expanding its eligibility requirements for this program to help residential customers in need. Although program eligibility is usually determined by the community organizations listed on the Austin Energy website (austinenergy.com/go/cap), the City of Austin has created this new access point in order to provide easier access to these emergency funds. If you have had any challenges contacting these agencies then you can use the following form to apply and request assistance.
Residential customers are eligible for financial assistance if they, or a member of their household, have experienced a financial hardship, loss of job, or reduction in income related to COVID-19. This includes financial hardships based on illness, caring for a family member, shelter in place orders and the resulting closure of non-essential businesses, as well as school closures.
To proceed with the online application process, you will be REQUIRED to provide:
Essential identifying information
Name of Account Holder
Electric Service Address, including City and Zip
Acknowledgement that you understand the program requirements
Some of the following ADDITIONAL information will be required to ensure we are able to contact the Account Holder incase assistance is needed to fill out the emergency request.
Person inputting information if different than account holder
Relationship to account holder
Last 4 digits of Social Security Number or Driver’s License number
Telephone number associated with account
Good contact email address
Electric account number
You will be asked to upload a file of one of the following documents:
Proof of approved unemployment claim (from Texas Workforce Commission)
Proof of application of unemployment claim (from Texas Workforce Commission)
Recent pay stub as proof of employment, plus:
Communication from an employer about layoff or reduction in hours
Confirmation of business closure through a website or letter (from employer)
Or other reasonable documentation to show financial hardship or eligibility
The document can be one of the following formats;
Cell phones equipped with cameras will produce an electronic image in one of the accepted formats.
